Maintaining Your Natural Hair During the Cooler Months

With cooler temperatures here for many of us, it’s time to start thinking of the slight adjustments that need to be made in your natural hair care regiment.  Although the cooler air has less humility, moisture is sometimes lost and extra effort must be made for hair to remain hydrated.

Check out a few tips to keep your mane moisturized and healthy during the fall:

  • Be sure to keep damaged and brittle ends clipped that have been ruined by summer heat.
  • Try rocking protective styles including bantu knots, braids and buns to reduce exposure to harsh temperatures.
  • Coating hair with a good oil (olive and coconut work great) can help hair from drying out as well as serve as a conditioning treatment.
  • Consuming foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals aid in steady hair growth. Also, try drinking at least eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated.
  • Wearing a silk bonnet or using a satin pillow case to avoid nighttime dryness.
