Immunizations

Immunization is important, not only as a child, but throughout every stage of your life. Take some time this month to know which vaccines you and loved ones may need, to protect against infectious diseases.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), immunization is one of the best ways parents can protect their infants from 14 serious childhood diseases before age 2. Also, don’t forget about your preteen and/or teen, who most likely will need back-to-school shots. Adults and seniors should also pay attention to see if your vaccine schedule is up to date.

The HHS lists the following vaccine-preventable diseases:

  • Chickenpox
  • Diphtheria
  • Hib
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Flu
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Pneumococcal
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella
  • Tetanus

Now is a good time for you and your family to get the flu shot, as the vaccine comes available in mid to late August, states the HHS. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor.

Make sure you are up to date!
